Washington University was founded in 1853 as a private institution. It was founded by Wayman Crow and William Greenleaf Eliot. First, the university was Eliot Seminary, in 1854 it received the name of “Washington Institute in St. Louis”. It has happened because of the university charter was accepted in February, 22, 853 – a birthday of George Washington.

The campuses of the university are very beautiful due to the colligate gothic architecture. All the campuses are very convenient.

Speaking about the research centers and school one should mention that all the students are engaged into the academic research, in spite of being undergraduates or graduates. The number of inventions made at the university is just great: National Institution of Health accounts 150 inventions.

Accept the academical researches, the following students organizations exist: Washington University Student Union, Residential Life and Events Programming Board, television, and radio station.

Washington University in St. Louis is a private research university, which is located in ST. Luis, Missouri. It was founded in 1853 and it was named after George Washington. This university is always claimed for, it has students form all the states of U.S. and from 125 other nations, can you imagine that?

This university accounts 22 Nobel Laureates for the research making. Washington University accounts seven highly ranked schools within it. Washington University is mostly famous for its researches in the field of medicine and science. It has even been playing one of the leading roles in Human Genome Project.

In 2007, U.S. News and World Report announced Washington University in St. Louis to be at the 12th place for the undergraduate programs,   at the    6th place in the admission selectivity. Washington School of Medicine occupies the third position, School of Architecture occupies the fifth position, and George Warren Brown School of Social Work occupies the first place in the list of best educational institutions.

The popular nicknames for the university are Wash. U. and WUSTL. The endowment of the University of George Washington is $5,66 billion. Mark S. Wrighton is the executive chancellor, who is considered to be one of the most paid head of the universities.
